Permaculture Principles

Permaculture designs gardens that sustain themselves.

The first principle is observe. Watch your site for a year. Sun, shade, water, wind. Design for what is actually there.

The second is catch and store energy. Rain barrels capture water. South facing walls capture heat. Compost captures nutrients.

The third is stack functions. A tree provides shade, fruit, and habitat. Each element does many jobs.

The fourth is use edges. The edge between forest and field is the most productive zone. Plant the edges.

Diversity over monoculture. Many plants working together resist pests and diseases.

Permaculture is not lazy gardening. It is smart design. Less work, more yield, year after year.
